567A M1 helmet

Good evening,

Here is a McCord helmet with stamp 567A.  There are markings in the liner webbing that I cannot read and do not understand the meaning.  What is the meaning of it?

There seem to have been some paint touch up on the shell.

Is the paint texture and color correspond to a helmet that could have been used in Europe or in the Pacific?

Is it feasible to find an era nape strap to complete this helmet?

Thank you

Your helmet is a fixed loop shell made around June 1943. The liner is a late war example with blackened brass A washers, these started to be manufactured around June 1944. The S marking you can see is more than likely for the Scholl Manufacturing co. They were just one of the many companies that produced the cotton suspension for the helmet liner.
The shell has received a repaint, more than likely in the Post-war period as some of these helmets had a long life.
If you go on eBay or try one of the many dealers who sell helmets you’ll be able to find a nape easily.
Hope that helps.

Thank you king802,

Yes it does help.

Is it possible that there were several liners associated to a helmet during it service?

Is it common that there is no liner chinstrap?

Also, is the paint color corresponding to WW2 colors?  The reason of my question is that I got some brings back from a veteran with documentation and pictures and I would had like to display together.    May the addition of a net be a good idea?

Thank’s

A number of companys made helmet liners. As the war progressed liners were improved over time. Everything is a mixed lot of this helmet and that liner when it comes to pots and liners for the most part. Yes, your liner should have a leather chin strap, it helps secure the pot to the liner. The basic M-1 helmet came from the factory in one color that was sent all over the world. Thier is no OD paint differance from one theater of opperations vs another.  If your pot has its original paint under the repaint you could bring that back by removing the repaint, but you would be stuck with whatever that paint looks like and you would alter your pot. It's your pot and thats your call.
