Information On Alfred 'Ted' John Knight (1914 - 1982) Who Served In The US Military

Hi

I'm trying to find military details for an Alfred 'Ted' John Knight, who although all the address records I have for him show him as living in Canada after emigrating from England in 1949, his death record (attached) shows that he died in the US in Virgina at 68 years old, and his death certificate is ticked 'yes' to the question 'Was decedent ever in US armed forces'.

Alfred was born on the 1st Jan 1914 and lived in the UK up until 1949. On voters lists in Canada he is down as an aircraft engineer, so I wondered if he ever served in Korea or Vietnam? Or if he may have served with the US armed forces in peacetime / generally in the Cold War.

My question is thus - can anyone advise the best way to try and find info on Alfred from his time in the US military?

Kind regards,

Paul.

I've been looking in US, UK, and Canadian stuff, and can't find military. Doesn't mean it isn't there, just means it isn't online so far. Or the DC could be wrong. Not sure. Did find some other info, though, and here it is in case you don't have anything!

Parents:

Alfred Knight (1875-1936) & Beatrice Charlotte Newman (1884-1964)

Sister:

Elsie Beatrice Knight (b. 1919)

Spouse:

Barbara Dorothy Ashby (b. 1921)

@stratasfan thanks, yes I have these records. The long term quest is trying to find what happened to his wife Barbara, hence trying to find any military info that might lead to some clues. I think I've exhausted all the other potential lines, but have only just noticed the 'yes' box about his US military service that is on his death record.

Oh, so you don't know when Barbara died? I see the Toronto Star paper is available through ProQuest (which I don't have access to). Do you have any idea where/when she died?

Also . . . the cemetery for Ted is listed in Toronto . . . have you tried contacting them?

@stratasfan no, no idea at all sadly.  I'm trying to find out what happened to her because I'm pretty sure her and Alfred didn't have children, so the only potential descendants of this branch will be with Alfred's sister Elsie who had two children with her husband Claude Moore (children's names are Valerie and Clifford Michael Moore), last known address in Toronto / North York in 1972 for both Elise and Alfred and their spouses.

This branch all descend from my great grandfather's brother Alfred Knight (senior) 1875 - 1936. He was something of a war hero in the Victorian era and in WW1. After Alfred senior died in 1936, and after WW2 this entire branch emigrated to Canada (with possibly some time in the the US where Alfred junior is concerned). I'd love to make contact with this branch but unlike the UK, Canada has such strict privacy laws around what you can search so I've hit a complete wall post-1972 (apart from Alfred Junior's attached death record and obituary).

Yes, i've contacted the cemetery. They had Alfred's records but nothing for (our) Barbara Knight.

What a mystery! And being that he died in 1982 and she wasn't old, she could have remarried, and then you'd have to find out her surname at that point!

@stratasfan yes if she re-married I think I'm basically screwed. Although possible I would hope/think because she would be nearly 70 it would be unlikely. But you never know.
