USMarineCorps Posted October 21, 2022 Share #1 Posted October 21, 2022 Hi all, I recently got this nice set of wings in a 513th PIR officer's grouping. The officer subsequently served in Korean and Vietnam before retiring in 1968. Given his 20+ year career in the US Army, I would like to know whether these are WW2 era or post-war issue. The clutch back pins make it hard to estimate the age of these, though I've read that the nail-type pins are indicative of post-war issue. Note: I also posted these in another thread. Thank you in advance for your help, Fred

triplecanopy Posted October 21, 2022 Share #3 Posted October 21, 2022 I would say that the wings are post WWII, but may represent a combat jump during WWII. I think the wings are most likely from the mid 1950's to early 1960's time frame.
USMarineCorps Posted November 1, 2022 Author Share #4 Posted November 1, 2022 Yes, this paratrooper made his combat jump during Operation Varsity in 1945. He served in Korea but was not engaged in any combat, and went on to serve in Vietnam in the early 1960’s as an advisor.
Dave Posted November 1, 2022 Share #5 Posted November 1, 2022 Looks like a post-war wing with the combat jump star. Since he did a full career, it would make sense that these probably date into the 50s or 60s.
