Recently purchased this 1918 dated Haversack named to a Burton Tangue of Vermont. It appears he was inducted in early 1941 and then discharged in 1944 after a board review and classified as 2-C(H) in the 38-42 year old range. 2-C was deferment due to agricultural occupation.

After a review of post war newspaper articles, it seems he was a very successful farmer. Every bit helped!

My question to the membership-Were these still being issued in 1941? I would have to guess that being in Vermont-they May have only had access to older gear. Thoughts?

Either way, a neat piece. I’ve just got track down a named 1940’s example now.

Yeah lots of older web gear was issued out in the pre war draft army and in the early to mid part of the war. This guy Tangue of course was not issued his stuff by his local draft board in Vermont, that stuff gets issued when he went to Basic wherever that was and is turned in once graduated and will be moving on to a leave and duty assignment where new stuff will be issued. This pack was no doubt issued to him at his final duty station wherever that was, and because it essentially is obsolete and becoming in the process of being wholly superseded by the new OD M44 stuff, he got to keep it and take it home.
