Salvage Sailor Posted October 10, 2022 Share #1 Posted October 10, 2022 Kolekole Pass, Oahu Kolekole Pass is a mountain pass at an elevation of 504m (1,653ft) above the sea level, located on the island of Oahu, the third largest of the Hawaiian Islands, in the middle of the vast Pacific Ocean, USA. The pass is located in the Waianae Mountain Range. The road to the summit through the mountains connecting central and west Oahu is called Kole Kole Pass Road. It’s asphalted but very steep. Access to the road and the pass is restricted to military personnel, but is occasionally opened to the public during emergencies. Heavy rains and rock slides can close the road anytime. Originally a path of crushed lava rock and red dirt, the paved road was begun in 1937 by the 3rd Engineers. There are sheer drops virtually along the entire route and enough hairpins to make anyone dizzy.
