Flight Surgeon insignia for WWII Garrison Cap?

This insignia had a note with it that said it was for a Flight Surgeon's garrison cap. It noted that the gilt insignia was only used from 1942-44.

 

Can anyone verify that?

 

It is on a torn GEMSCO card. 1 1/8 inches wide. 7/8 inches tall. Early clutch back as shown, which is why I'm questioning the era that it came from.

 

I can't find it out there anywhere.  Thanks for any help you can give me.
