Alex Arthur Posted September 25, 2022 Share #1 Posted September 25, 2022 The below belt buckle was sold to me as an American civil war belt buckle , I would be very grateful if you can confirm if this could have been the case. Or has it been made after the American civil war. Thanks in anticipation for help in this matter , it cost £170 sterling. Many thanks Alex Arthur
KurtA Posted September 25, 2022 Share #2 Posted September 25, 2022 This is the 1874 pattern. And not to say it is even that old. Same pattern worn all through the 20th Century. Yours does look vintage- the separately applied eagle is nice. But you didn’t receive what you paid for. See if you can get a refund. That price was way too high for that type buckle. KurtA Posted September 25, 2022 Share #3 Posted September 25, 2022 I stated “separately applied” based on what look like rivets on the reverse. But they don’t seem to line up with the eagle.
wartimecollectables.com Posted September 25, 2022 Share #4 Posted September 25, 2022 Note the M1851 belt plate attaches from the side not reverse.
