USMC_COLLECTOR Posted September 12, 2022 Share #1 Posted September 12, 2022 Here is an impression of a marine at Chosin. Excuse the luscious green grass as I am too excited to wait for snow. Original m1947 Parka (An army one because that is all I will every find in my lifetime) Original Shoepacs Repro Dungarees Would love to hear some advice and critiques as I like to be close on accuracy as that is all I can get right. Rakkasan187 Posted September 13, 2022 Share #5 Posted September 13, 2022 If you get a chance pick up a copy of the book "Last Stand of Fox Company" by Bob Drury and Tom Clavin. I knew several of the men from Fox Company 2 Battalion 7th Marines who were at the Chosin Reservoir. Corporal and then later 1SG Robert L. Gaines was a very dear friend of mine and he is mentioned in the book several times and I was able to obtain a lot of Robert's things from his family when he passed away. I met several F/2-7 veterans at several reunions when they came to New Mexico. PS I think your lips would have frozen to the canteen.. Bob Gaines mentioned to me that the only thing he could eat due to the severe cold was tootsie roll candies that he kept under his arms to keep from freezing. 268th C.A. Posted September 13, 2022 Share #6 Posted September 13, 2022 Your impression looks pretty good too me. Maybe a blanket torn scarf. anything to keep warm you can imagine. I met one Vet at a yard sale years ago. I asked did they have any military items. He started asking me if knew what a Chosin frozen was. We had a good conversation. He just kept stressing how cold it was. Bad feet and frost bite. He was crippled. Horrible War and winter... I found this a good read
