Chariots of Fire Posted December 27, 2022 Author Share #76 Posted December 27, 2022 A lot has been accomplished since the last post. Working on the pulley system that will raise and lower the twin booms and cables. One set of pulleys is done and the next set is ready to be made. Hard to see in the photo is the line work for the assembly that holds the pulleys. It is taped to the small piece of brass sheet. It will be cut out, folded to form the top and sides and will be soldered to a base. The tubing forms the part that goes through the top cross beam. The air compressor will go under the braces below the spare tire.
everforward Posted December 27, 2022 Share #77 Posted December 27, 2022 It really is brilliant work. I love builds that come from just material and formed into something like this. Do you plan to do any weathering to it..? Either way it's just fantastic.
Chariots of Fire Posted December 27, 2022 Author Share #78 Posted December 27, 2022 Yes, there will be some weathering but it will be subtle. I don't like muddying up everything. It will have some signs of normal wear but nothing significant. The guys take good care of their equipment!😁

Chariots of Fire Posted January 2 Author Share #82 Posted January 2 Today it's looking like a wrecker. The booms are essentially done and the cables have been strung. The booms can be either raised or lowered and the winches can let out cable or take it in. Still a bunch of little things left to do but the big items are finished. Brian Dentino Posted January 2 Share #83 Posted January 2 Simply amazing! Your work is without peers on the subjects you choose to model. The amount of detail is amazing and the accuracy is amazing. cutiger83 Posted January 2 Share #84 Posted January 2 Stunning!! There are so many little details. I could look at this for hours and still see something new. I looked back to see when you started this project. It is amazing how much you accomplished in a few months. ...Kat

I had to look to see where you put it and saw it underneath the spare tire. This is extraordinary work. Semper Fi. Manny
Proud Kraut Posted January 2 Share #86 Posted January 2 As all the others have posted before: an outstanding modeling project. Your "Diamond" is a real gem, can´t wait to see it completed.
Chariots of Fire Posted January 5 Author Share #87 Posted January 5 The work is nearly done. The truck portion is completed and now is the time to fill up the two compartments on the body and make up two pioneer kits for the covers. The cables are permanently struck, and the booms are finished and set in place with small bolts and nuts at the base of the frame. The tow bar and an 8 lb sledge were made up today. Chariots of Fire Posted January 8 Author Share #92 Posted January 8 I'm going to get this rig out in service now. Tonite the pioneer kits were finished and mounted. Two GI gas cans were put in holders and strapped down. Four buckets are on the bed along with some tow cables, a coil of rope and the line for the compressor. Calling the build complete. Brian Dentino Posted January 8 Share #93 Posted January 8 All I can say is................WOW!!! That is one of the most amazing builds (mostly from scratch and highly modified) that I have ever seen. Your work is art and not a hobby. Museum quality...at least! Proud Kraut Posted January 8 Share #94 Posted January 8 Thanks very much for posting the build of this truck step by step! A perfect example of a scratch build model, simply terrific! This topic will be pinned from now on.
Chariots of Fire Posted January 9 Author Share #95 Posted January 9 Glad you enjoyed the ride along. Hopefully some of the techniques I used will be of benefit to others. To me that is the real pleasure of model building. After a brief respite we'll tackle a much simpler project but one that is needed. I don't have a Jeep in the collection so the easiest way to secure one is to build up the Italeri 1/24 fire Jeep. I'll keep the fire stuff off and make it a plain jane but will follow the Red Ball theme.
