Best I can do for now, Kat.  Will try and take a better photo for clarity.   I know most were red but the brass sort of sets it off for a change of pace. 297410772_156(2).JPG.292f4c05a639f3162b29a889e70e8a97.JPG

Very nice!! Thank you so much for the closeup.  I appreciate it.

A question for anyone who might know.  What was the range of numbers that the 969A carried on their hoods?  USA will be above but the vehicle designation code and number range is what I'm looking for.  I've chased it a bit but am having trouble getting to the right info.

Been working on more of the features of the cab and chassis.  The running boards, fuel tank and battery storage box have been completed.  In the stash of building materials I found a good looking GI gas can but it needed some tweaking to look like it should.  Seeing as how I will need more than one I made a mold and cast additional ones from the master.  The only thing needed after casting is to add the handles and filler cap.   Incidentally, I have not forgotten the covers over the screws in the wheel centers.  I always leave those till last just in case there is an issue and I need to get the tires off.

Work has begun on the body and the soft top.  The top in the photo is not the one that will be final.  The tissue has too much of a pattern and is rough.  I have some finer tissue that will work much better.  The idea will work.  The rear window on the real soft top is flexible.  I found I could tape in a small piece of stretch and seal clear film and it looks real.  The body has been started.  Much to do on the wrecker portion.  The body needs a tailgate, covers to the storage lockers and a lot of little details added,

Very nice work.  Incredible detail.  I would buy that piece of art.

I am going to take my tube of glue and Revel model kit home now and sulk in the corner.

That Revell kit is not bad.  It just needs some fine tuning here and there.  But it is 1/32 scale and would be much smaller than this one at 1/25 scale.  It's all in the details.

The top looks amazing! I imagine the clear wrap was to protect your model.  Did you form the top over the clear wrap then take it off and put on your model?

I love to watch how you make everything...Kat

I did just that, Kat.  I didn't want the white glue to get on the model.  After the glue started to set a bit I removed the clear wrap so the tissue would cling more to the cab and brace.  I will be doing it again, however with some different tissue to get a better look.

Thanks for explaining. I love to learn your techniques.  It is very interesting to me.

The cab and chassis portion of this build are complete.  I reworked the top, added the hold down lines and made up rear view mirrors.  I forgot to add the ID lettering to the rear bumpers but they can be done quickly.

Work on the body is the theme of today.  Even it has a plethora of details that, if left off, just doesn't work.  The tailgate is hinged.  The hinge is not anything like it looks in the photo.  Most of it is shadows that make it look way out of scale but it's not.  It also opens and can be left open in a flat position with the chains and hooks.  The tool boxes on top are also hinged and will contain an assortment of things that make the wrecker what it is.

Couple more photos of the body.  More detailing on the back.  I changed the chains that hold up the tailgate to something more suitable.  The small compartment door under the tailgate also opens.  Tie down hooks were added along the sides, the beginning of rear reflectors for the body sides and the loops for the wrecker cables were also added to the rear.

Wow! I am amazed every time I see your updates. This is looking great.

I had to go back and look at the first page to see what this is going to look like. I am even more in awe...

An update on progress.  The frame is just about complete.  I need to build the double pulleys for the top cross member and the swivels for the booms for the lower cross member.  Other than that it is just about ready for paint.

Not entirely.  I found one can from a kit but the top was really off.  So I cut away the top excuse for handles and cast the rest.  Then I added a small piece of strip stock jlust behind the filler cap and the laid three small pieces of round stock on top of that.  When all was glued solid I trimmed the pieces of round stock flush to make the three handles.  I added a craft ring for the filler cap and notched it in 4 places.  Then the entire can was painted.  Here's a look at the casting.
