Friend of mine picked this up for me. Very salty but all intact!  Ironically, my grandfather served with this unit in France in 1918. Wounded at Verdun on 9/30/18. 

 

Curious as to the meaning of the black tac marking on the side.

Great helmet -- thanks for posting it.

 

I have no idea what those "tac" markings are but I'm hoping someone else will know and post it here.
