Nickman983 Posted August 29, 2022 Share #1 Posted August 29, 2022 Just picked this one up and wanted to get a second opinion on it since it's a bit different than many of the other camo M1917s that are out there. The colors are more subdued than a lot of the camo M1917s I've seen posted however the pattern itself is pretty intricate.
Nickman983 Posted August 29, 2022 Author Share #2 Posted August 29, 2022 Unfortunately the liner is missing on this one. There are also some markings on the underside of the brim around the 1, 4 and 6 o'clock positions when held with the lot number at the top. Nickman983 Posted August 29, 2022 Author Share #3 Posted August 29, 2022 I've included some close ups of the paint. It looks like the helmet was possibly shellacked at one point, but even with the coat of shellack there are a ton of microcracks showing up under and through that coating. From what I can tell I think it looks good but I'm interested in hearing from other's opinions!
TheGoose Posted August 29, 2022 Share #4 Posted August 29, 2022 I like it! Paint is clearly old and I don't think someone would fake something like this. There are an infinite number of different "camo" schemes out there, as most were done by individual GIs post war. Most "camo" you see out there was done for show, parades, or personal artwork and not for actual camouflage.

That's pretty much what I was thinking on it but I figured getting extra eyes never hurts, the only thing that made me pause was the more "practical" camo scheme vs other M1917s just because I haven't seen many examples that aren't either dazzle or have clear separation between colors. While I'd enjoy a dazzle camo example, M1917s aren't my main focus and a scheme like this fits in better with the rest of my collection. It's unfortunate the liner is missing but the price was right so I can't complain.
