Belleauwood Posted February 27, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 27, 2009 Well here's one you don't see everyday................... Here's my pre SOS aviation find. Pictured is a fabric panal from a French Breguet bomber and observation aeroplane from the French 39th SAL Squadron. The frame measures almost 40 inches by 40 inches with the round cut-out of the matt almost 29 inches in diameter. This is the first French panal I've ever had the opportunity to see and examine, much less own. The accompaning photograph shows the insignia painted on a Salmson. My guess is the the 39th had several aircraft types other than the Salmson shown. All the pilots and observers are id'ed on the back. Lt. Ross is shown with the Air Service in the Zone of Advance. Research begins......................Ain't it fun!!! Any info on Ross of the French 39th SAL Squadron will be appreciated. Sorry for the photos. Basement shot - Panel is beautiful and bright

IMPERIAL QUEST Posted February 27, 2009 Share #6 Posted February 27, 2009 What a fantastic piece of history and a wonderful period photo to compliment it! You can even see that the horizontal ribbing marks on the piece and the photo match up exactly...SUPER!!!!!!!!!!!
