They look and feel the same, but why is one marked in yellow with the military info and the other is not. Can't quite make out what the black marks on the bottom set is, but hoping someone may have some info about these! :) Would these have been in a bunch of different types of aircraft? phantomfixer Posted August 16, 2022 Share #4 Posted August 16, 2022 from the top down belt 1 and 4 are a set and 2 and 3 are a set used on all USAF (based on contract number) piston engine aircraft of the period, non ejection seat aircraft...C-47, C-54, B-17, B-29, B-50, F-51, Trainers etc etc etc...possibly a few of the jet fighter might have used that style I am not sure troop seats on the cargo aircraft would have had a hook snap to secure to the seat versus an eye bolt... Bottom line is, these are common (and desirable) aircrew/flight deck lap belts used in conjunction with shoulder straps found on a variety of aircraft of the period Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
P-59A Posted August 18, 2022 Share #5 Posted August 18, 2022 As you already know these are post war ear as denoted by the nylon matierial and zig zag stitching. These would also have been used in the P-80, F-86 and other early jet fighters and trainers that did not have ejection seats. As Phantomfixer stated any number of crewed aircraft would have used these on non ejection seats. The B-25 was still in use into the 50's as were many other aircraft. WW2 era lap belts are not easy to find and these are fine as filler belts untill a WW2 lap belt can be found. I have used these as fillers. Interesting about the nylon material and zig-zag stitching. I figured they were post were because of the date. :) But the material and stitching is a better thing to know! So, the lap safety belt was really the same across a wide field of aircraft, then. Very interesting. In today's world of every model has a custom item, seems like such a smart thing - easily replaced, don't have to stock a ton of different parts for repair, only have to order one kind for a lot of different models.
