P55 liner with OD web chinstrap

The liner itself is standard, with nothing out of the ordinary there save for the WW2 headband attached to it. What I thought was interesting was the chinstrap itself, which is made from OD cotton. I know Euro clone chinstrap are made from the same material, but I could not find one that looked like this. Another interesting note, the black dots (cannot remember the proper name), are the same as the ones used to connect the nape strap on the back. Any more insight into this would be appreciated.

Yup that's the same strap! So these straps may have just been used for recruitment posters.

I always felt that that is a Camo Band placed around the liner  with the front of it pulled out and over the rim of the steel pot.

I believe we had a discussion about this strap and poster some years ago.

Went ahead and decided to test the strap and camo band with a Vietnam lid. Comparing the two with the poster, the web chinstrap looks far more similar to the poster then the camo band. The camo band, while it does work, has a more noticeable separation between the liner and helmet. Granted, the band is a later version since I don't have a proper Vietnam era one on hand, but I think it would be the same case of separation.

Some years ago, a discussion of this recruiting poster chinstrap ensued, and I think the opinion was that it was a camouflage band. Of course, this was made without any evidence otherwise. Now I think that since you have in hand "the real McCoy" chinstrap, we may now dismiss the camouflage band theory.
