mbec Posted August 8, 2022 Share #1 Posted August 8, 2022 Hi all. This helmet belonged to my wifes uncles grandfather. I was able to get these pictures last weekend but I don't have a lot of info about the man. The uniform is also around but I was not shown that. hopefully I can get some more info and pictures. The liner is there and in great shape and the small dent on top by the rivet is supposedly a bullet strike. I was curious if anyone can tell me the purpose of the holes punched in the rim. There are 3 more on the other side also. Thanks Mark

Bugme Posted August 9, 2022 Share #3 Posted August 9, 2022 The holes are for mounting a Wilmer Eye Shield. There were over 30,000 eye shields made but, they were never used in combat. As for the helmets, I believe the number that had the holes punched was somewhere in the area of 35,000.
