HUD69 Posted August 7, 2022 Share #1 Posted August 7, 2022 Currently awaiting the sign/board in the image. The units all took part in WW2 Pacific theatre I think. Can anyone give me some more information on this item? Age, usage and what unit might have been the bottom right one? Kind regards Ron
GUDMAR1975 Posted August 7, 2022 Share #2 Posted August 7, 2022 The wings are for a naval aviator. VMF-xxx means a fixed wing US Marine Corps fighter squadron. VMO = Marine Observation Squadron. I don't recognize the numbers. VMO-1,2, and 4 were active until after Desert Storm flying the OV-10 Bronco. VMO-6 was active duribg the Vietnam War. It was equipped with fixed wing aircraft and helicopters.
HUD69 Posted August 8, 2022 Author Share #3 Posted August 8, 2022 Hi Gudmar, I am aware of that, the units are VMF-215, VMF-271, VMO-151 and the last one is hard to read. My guess is, that this might have been a sign on a common/shared base in the Pacific? Does anyone recognize the style, or are there similar signs out there? Kind regards, Ron
HUD69 Posted August 8, 2022 Author Share #4 Posted August 8, 2022 It seems the units were together during 1944 at Espiritu Santo Naval Air Base. The VMO units there were 151, 251 and 351.
