Keith Posted August 6, 2022 #1 Posted August 6, 2022 I have had this ENGER-KRESS M3 holster for several years and haven't paid much attention to it. However, photographing it today it was noted the retaining strap has been moved. I am sure it was done to fit a different sidearm than the M1911. Did the military modify M3's to accept the new M9 sidearm? And, would it entail having a longer strap? I don't have an M9 to try for myself. Thanks.
Steve B. Posted August 6, 2022 #2 Posted August 6, 2022 The M3 holster was not in use when the military adopted the M9. It is possible that this was modified by a civilian who purchased it surplus after the war, or that the soldier had it modified to fit a souvenir such as a Luger or P-38.
mohawkALSE Posted August 7, 2022 #4 Posted August 7, 2022 Idk about a mod for the M9, maybe something else as noted. The M3 is identical to the M7 pretty much except the 7 has a cross strap besides the shoulder strap. The M7 was designed for the 1911 but yet fits the M9 perfectly fine. Cant really speak for the M3 as I dont have one or seen anyone try a M9 in one. This is my M9 in the M7 holster.
