New here so I thought I’d share my favorite Local pickup, got some info on the pilot. And a clipping reporting about the first combat mission for the Cobra in Vietnam in October of 67. To which he was a gunner on one of the helicopters.

Any thoughts and info would be greatly appreciate about the group, or any memorabilia you may have

Very nice early APH-5A (originally white shell & housing that were painted later - probably in country - before the factory-painted examples were fielded).
The decoration, name / history coming along with it makes it a valuable asset to your collection, congrats !

Does the label on the rear say WOC?  Id imagine thats his original helmet he was issued at Ft Wolters, TX for primary.  Very cool.

That.. is a killer helmet…

Here is a new, just opened today, 1968 clear visor if you can use it… I am not sure which flight helmet this is for

I believe that one is for the AFH-1 helmet but it should work as well.

I cant recall seeing the APH-5A visors having that weird wire looking thing on the sides from the top n bottom.  I know 110 percent when I got the correct Neutral Grey visor for my AFH-1 since they come with a clear, it had that wire looking thing on both sides.

I totally remember this past discussion, this clear visor is AFH-1, no doubt 😄 !

And for the visor lock knob, given that your helmet period of use in the current state lies in late 1967, a low-profile ("NAVY"-like) cast plastic knob in the brown or green color would be relevant and will look just fine (here's below the green one on my 1967 APH-5A).

Or perhaps for a more "early look", a white example that you coud paint green and artificially age on the edges to show white use marks underneath (just as your shell and housing do), although finding the exact same shade of green will be tough.
