Help identify a WWI uniform patch ID: 66th Cavalry Division

I received a question about a uniform and I really have not seen this patch before anyone have any ideas? Thanks

May be a post-WW1 unit, from what I see the uniform should date from the early 20's with the gilt buttons (1923-1926).

 

I agree as well that it's prolly a cav unit of some sort.

Yes, this standing collar coat (transitional) pre-dating lapel tunic of 1926, provides all the necessary clues to determine  what the Shoulder Insignia  represents.  It's an early prototype 66th Cavalry Division insignia prior to the WD authorized and approved six sided star design.  However, being that it is an Organized Reserves unit covering 15 (fifteen) different states it is likely a locally preferred design worn by one of the Division's organizations within one of its Plain State locals.

 

To further support this concept the R.A. Cavalry Regiments are 1st-17th under the 1st-6th Cavalry Brigades; N.G. Cavalry Regiments are 101st-124th under the 51st-56th Cavalry Brigades; and O.R. Cavalry Regiments 301st-324th Cavalry Regiments under 151st-161st Cavalry Brigades...meaning there are no other numeric assignments of "66".

So when did it become superstition that horseshoes should be oriented the other way to keep the luck from running out?  Or is this patch upside down for some unit number 99?
