Why does the SV2 have nine flare-loops ?

If You've ever wondered, here's why

This is the earliest(1963) pen-gun kit I have encountered. All items were packed loose in a poly bag, no bandoleer or plastic-protectors for the primers. The only contract markings are on the launcher, none on the nine flares. Enjoy

That is a solid find,  never saw a contract marked one that early either and the projector is a little different than the later kits.  I wish they had a nomenclature for what that launcher was called.  Doesnt seem to be called a Mk31 like the later launcher.   The kit itself was still obviously a Mk79 Mod 0 like the later 60s kits.  Interesting to have 9 flares back then vs the later 7.  Army OV-1 Aircraft Survival Vests were basically the same way since they were designed from an earlier SV-2 vest the Army actually used.  Can see the flare loops were still 9 on them.  This is a Gyrojet flare kit though vs the MK-79.
