hink441 Posted July 19, 2022 Share #1 Posted July 19, 2022 Just obtained a new project. A B-52D ejection seat made by Weber. Needs a lot of parts and I want to try and make this one presentable but not perfect. Here are some pics.

Manchu Warrior Posted July 19, 2022 Share #3 Posted July 19, 2022 It actually looks rather presentable from where I'm sitting. That is pretty dang cool
72psb Posted July 19, 2022 Share #4 Posted July 19, 2022 Nice, Does the PLT on the back indicate Pilot? Keep us updated on your progress.
hink441 Posted July 19, 2022 Author Share #5 Posted July 19, 2022 Thank you. Yes the “PLT” indicates this seat was the pilot’s seat. The aircraft serial number is 55-0109. Built in 1955. Sent to the boneyard in 1974. I would like to learn more about the aircraft but that will take some digging. If anyone has info on this aircraft, I would love to see it. This seat also came with the rail. Lucky to have that! Chris
phantomfixer Posted July 19, 2022 Share #6 Posted July 19, 2022 Looks like all you need is a survival kit, cushion, Playboy, and cowboy hat... great seat...
hink441 Posted July 19, 2022 Author Share #7 Posted July 19, 2022 Thank you. Seat will need some serious corrosion control work to bust the rusted hardware. I think it has great potential though. Chris

hink441 Posted July 20, 2022 Author Share #10 Posted July 20, 2022 This aircraft was cut up in March of 1994 after sitting in the boneyard for 16 years. Photo from the internet
mohawkALSE Posted July 21, 2022 Share #11 Posted July 21, 2022 Def a nice find to find the actual pilots upward ejecting seat. Seems most of the time people only find the downward ejecting seats. I forget, do these older Weber seats use the MD-1 seat survival kit? I like those original tall tail 52s with the normal noses (no sensors)
hink441 Posted July 21, 2022 Author Share #12 Posted July 21, 2022 I am not sure on the type of seat kit required. It looks like a MD-1 would fit. I have to read up on this seat and learn about all the part requirements. Should be fun😂.
hink441 Posted July 24, 2022 Author Share #13 Posted July 24, 2022 Just added a seat cushion in the seat pan. Pretty comfortable, better than sitting on a survival kit😂. Also have completed a good thorough clean up of the seat. I am pleased with the progress so far. Chris
hink441 Posted August 8, 2022 Author Share #14 Posted August 8, 2022 Placed an old 1960 back pack parachute in the seat. I know it doesn’t belong there but I think it looks okay. I also replaced the shoulder seat straps. I then painted the rope box and installed a new hinge pin on the rope box. Starting to look better now. Installed the seat onto the rail. Still have to find a lap-belt that is in better shape.

Not too familiar with these older seats but is that for like a cockpit escape rope if you had to egress the jet on the ground?
hink441 Posted August 8, 2022 Author Share #16 Posted August 8, 2022 Yes that is exactly what it is used for. Cockpit escape/egress. When I acquired the seat it had only a small piece of brittle rope left. I replaced the rope but only about 15’ of new rope was added. I like those original tall tail 52s with the normal noses (no sensors) I found that the following seat kits can be used in the B-52D Weber seats; MD-1, ML-4, CNU-68, CNU-129, and CNU-155. I will keep an eye open for one of these. Chris
