Panzerfaust Posted July 1, 2022 Share #1 Posted July 1, 2022 Picked up this M1 Navy Helmet With Hawley Liner and wondering what the letters and numbers that are painted on the front mean? Also was it common to paint the helmet liner also navy blue color? Many thanks! Regards, Drew

pararaftanr2 Posted July 1, 2022 Share #4 Posted July 1, 2022 I believe it indicates "Mount 43". A capital ship would have numerous AAA mounts. On an Iowa class battleship for example, 20 quad-40mm mounts and 49 20 mm mounts on average. Helmets for the gun crew would be stored at the mount and marked accordingly. sigsaye Posted July 30, 2022 Share #5 Posted July 30, 2022 The stencil stands for 40 MM Mount #

Then, it would be 4 inch Mount #3.
