phantomfixer Posted June 29, 2022 Share #1 Posted June 29, 2022 The back story a co worker brought this helmet in for me… her FIL was in the AAF as a engine mechanic, separated after the war, and re enlisted some time in the 50’s in the USAF.. he retired from Dover AFB in the 70’s.. in the same squadron that I was in, later on in the 90’s… the family was going to throw away the helmet and his uniforms.. sad rear seam, has OD3 straps(?) the liner is original finish, I can not see any maker mark on the crown of the liner…
phil b Posted June 29, 2022 Share #2 Posted June 29, 2022 nice helmet.......its sad that most family's don't want any of this....they just think its old military stuff and throw it away and erase history . helmet looks ww2 including the liner.......im sure some one is going to ask what the heat stamp number is on the shell . Tusker37 Posted July 1, 2022 Share #7 Posted July 1, 2022 IMO, these are the best helmets. Seems everyone these days is out to collect that 'rock star' painted helmet, marked helmet or the helmet with a ton of history. It's helmets like this, while we know of the person who wore it, that sit quietly and tell the best stories. An excellent addition to your caretaking..
