Ollkorrekt37 Posted June 28, 2022 #1 Posted June 28, 2022 I found this at the same antique store I somehow get my best helmets at, and this is no different! It's in incredibly rough condition that wouldnt even sell online, but I'm starting to warm up to these types of helmets, and wish they werent so underappreciated. From my knowledge, this is a typical air raid warden helmet, and the tag supposedly says it comes from Sacramento! There are no other markings on the shell, so I only really have this to believe. Are there any examples of this tag? What is the purpose of it? I don't have a good clue of how to use it beyond placing around your neck. If anyone could help me on this interesting tag, that'd be appreciated.
Brian Keith Posted June 28, 2022 #2 Posted June 28, 2022 The "tag" is an armband, the elastic is stretched out from age. It is post war, probably mid-1950's. The helmet is of course of WW II vintage. Most never had the decal. BKW
Ollkorrekt37 Posted June 28, 2022 Author #3 Posted June 28, 2022 Thanks, I imagine it was just two pieces the seller put together, or was reused after the war. Most likely the former. I have found some examples of armbands when trying to find something similar to it, and they seem to carry the same look. I'm no expert on civil defense, and enjoy learning more about these, as information is a bit hidden.
