He was from Hawaii and these things were found in the house of my brother in laws aunt. They were in a closet packed away i assume since 1945. The humidity took a toll on the type 38 carbine. some rust and rotted wood. The long 38 is in much better shape. It is a duffle cut. They were both in pieces so had to assemble them. Both have the mum and dust cover. You can see the pitting on the bolt in the shot of both dust covers. The blades on the bayonets are decent but again the wood took a beating as did the frogs and slings. They pretty much crumbled. The sun helmet is faded and well used. name tag and makers tag sweat smeared but still decent. the helmet is in decent shape with the chin cords uncut. There is also a different color paint in a band around the base of the helmet. The machete I figure is locally made But pretty neat. I don't have any story on how he got this stuff.
