WWIIBuff1945 Posted June 25, 2022 Share #1 Posted June 25, 2022 The grenade below was deactivated by Chief Warrant Officer 3 (CW3) William Wheatley, of the 184th Ordnance Battalion (Ammo), and was presented to serviceman Hollis in October of 1967. A rawhide thong and a piece of brass wire were used to attach the tag to the grenade. The handle is marked near the end cap with the following markings: A55-11-53. 184th Ordnance Battalion - The parent unit of the 184th Ordnance Battalion (EOD) was first constituted on October 18, 1927 in the Regular Army as the 6th Motor Repair Battalion. Throughout the years it was redesignated many times and finally on May 31, 1943 it became Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 184th Ordnance Battalion. During the Second World War, the Battalion participated in five campaigns and was inactivated on March 11, 1946 in Germany. On August 12, 1965, it was reorganized and redesignated as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 184th Ordnance Battalion and subsequently deployed to Vietnam. There it participated in five campaigns: Counteroffensive, Counteroffensive Phase II, Counteroffensive Phase III, Tet Counteroffensive, Counteroffensive Phase IV, Counteroffensive Phase V, Counteroffensive Phase VI, Tet 69/Counteroffensive, Summer-Fall 1969, Winter-Spring 1970, Sanctuary Counteroffensive, Counteroffensive Phase VII, Consolidation I, Consolidation II, and Cease-Fire. After the end of the Vietnam War, the Battalion was inactivated on April 2, 1972 at Fort Lewis, Washington. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
