Hawkins mine in ETO 1944-1945

Every time I see this photo, I chuckle as I specifically asked Wally Strobel about the Hawkins Mine strapped to his calf in this famous photo. Wally's response to me is that they never used the Hawkins mine and that he had a Gammon Grenade strapped there. No amount of my trying to explain the difference shook his resolve. You will not that the paratrooper standing to Strobel's left (your right as you look at the photo) is also wearing one.
