They are 3 inches across, marked sterling on back and look black from tarnish. The pin on the back is made so that it only rotates straight up, will not fold all the way back when opened. The only mark on back is STERLING in tiny raised letters at top of shield. They are not cast, the rough look on the back is from the tarnish when I sharpened the pics in photoshop to show more detail. Have more pics if needed. Thanks, Dave.
