ispy Posted June 13, 2022 Share #1 Posted June 13, 2022 Hi all I don't usually ask as for ne research is the fun part of collecting but I'm a little lost here. Is has what appears to be double diamonds and the letters 'APO' What anybody know what these are? Thank you
FT.Monmouth1943 Posted June 13, 2022 Share #2 Posted June 13, 2022 The only APO I ever heard of is Army Post Office. Maybe a reference to wanting to get shipped back home? - Jakob
ispy Posted June 16, 2022 Author Share #3 Posted June 16, 2022 Well I bought it for a minimal price but they didn't photograph the other side which has the club card insignia.
GITom1944 Posted June 18, 2022 Share #4 Posted June 18, 2022 The "diamonds" look like the crossed flags insignia of the US Army Signal Corps. I also believe APO refers to Army Post Office as others have said. Tom

USMC_COLLECTOR Posted June 19, 2022 Share #6 Posted June 19, 2022 The insignia on the back is definitely signal corps.

I tend to agree now that it's been pointed out But why would APO be painted directly underneath it
Rhscott Posted June 19, 2022 Share #8 Posted June 19, 2022 Still looks like 2 sided dice. Would go with the Ace card on the front. Missing the center torch of signal corps insignia.
GITom1944 Posted June 19, 2022 Share #9 Posted June 19, 2022 I'm switching to Rhscott's dice theory. I don't have a clue what it all means. Maybe the wearer was a gambler. Tom
BEAT_NAVY Posted June 19, 2022 Share #10 Posted June 19, 2022 Isn’t there a engineering unit with a card as their SSI? edit: 157th engineers
tredhed2 Posted June 19, 2022 Share #11 Posted June 19, 2022 WW II 152nd Engr Bn. Each company was represented by a diff suit which is the one on the end. Just can't find my notes for which company is which suit. The dice may be representative of the WW 2 XI Corps shoulder patch. Both units fought in the Pacific and the bn may have been a Corps asset. Rhscott Posted June 19, 2022 Share #12 Posted June 19, 2022 With that helmet having a replaced Korea era chinstrap and post war liner what happened in WW2 really is just a reach.
FT.Monmouth1943 Posted June 20, 2022 Share #13 Posted June 20, 2022 Those are definitely crossed flags on the back. You can see the flag poles crossing each other. They could be an attempt at checkered racing flags or have some other meaning that we will never know. - Jakob

dmar836 Posted June 20, 2022 Share #15 Posted June 20, 2022 Are those crossed flag poles or the rear bottoms of the dice. I think I see dice.
