I was just looking through a couple of albums that I have on the U.S. Navy Great White Fleet and I found these original pictures of American Planes trying to circumnavigate the world first. Four DT-2 Torpedo planes, made by Donald Douglas which were converted to accomplish this task with a crew of 8. They left on April 6, 1924, hotly pursued by the British and the Argentinians to accomplish this record flight first.

The first plane crashed in a mountain due to fog in Port Moller Alaska; all the crew survived, however they had to endure 10 days in the wilderness until they could walk to a cannery and be rescued.

The second plane crashed in Burma, however after 175 days, 367 plus hours of flight time , the Americans proved to be the first ones to accomplish this feat !
