We hate escorting those things because they're too fast for us in straight and level flight! Jon That's all I did for 10 of my 15 month deployment was fly chalk 2 behind the 'big dumb animal.' They look like a frog under goggles when ya look at 'em from behind. They are the fastest bird in the inventory but they seem to lack a certain amount of 'common sense' when it comes to flying. It was quite an experience flying with them as often as I did, very eye opening into another world so to speak. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Time to downsize! Spathologist Posted February 24, 2009 Share #37 Posted February 24, 2009 I have a little over 20 hours in the front of "G" and ECAS models, which includes a couple of hours of range time. Seems that CG requires a pilot in the front seat, and a unit I was in was shorthanded on pilots... And I've ridden in a Chinook once. That's enough.

You weren't flying days were you? when I was there, they never flew anything but night missions. I hated flying behind them when we did because the uncovered engine exhaust would blind your goggles. memphismeister Posted February 25, 2009 Author Share #39 Posted February 25, 2009 Took my grandson to a memorial flight to see helicopters. As a 4 year old he was awsome. I needed a shot of the old style OH-58A cockpit as a ref for a model I'm building. You wouldn't happen to have any others of the cockpit would you? Thanks for posting that shot! hawkdriver Posted February 26, 2009 Share #44 Posted February 26, 2009 Look, its a flying APU! More like a Dipsy dumpster beating itself to death. I hated them because every time they popped flares, the dumped a double load because they don't have any kind of HIRSS baffles. What a waste of taxpayers money.
