hawkdriver Posted February 24, 2009 Share #26 Posted February 24, 2009 I just pick it up to a hover, consequences be damned. I was speaking in Swavay and De Boner speak, that is what I was trying to say.

gwb123 Posted February 24, 2009 Share #29 Posted February 24, 2009 Maybe with all these riders we should be looking at a CH-47. Slower, but roomier.

Believe it or not, the Chinook is the fastest helicopter in the inventory! We hate escorting those things because they're too fast for us in straight and level flight! hawkdriver Posted February 24, 2009 Share #33 Posted February 24, 2009 How can any self respecting helo pilot trust a helicopter that doesn't even have a collective??? For God's sake, that is just wrong!

We hate escorting those things because they're too fast for us in straight and level flight! Jon That's all I did for 10 of my 15 month deployment was fly chalk 2 behind the 'big dumb animal.' They look like a frog under goggles when ya look at 'em from behind. They are the fastest bird in the inventory but they seem to lack a certain amount of 'common sense' when it comes to flying. It was quite an experience flying with them as often as I did, very eye opening into another world so to speak.

Spathologist Posted February 24, 2009 Share #37 Posted February 24, 2009 I have a little over 20 hours in the front of "G" and ECAS models, which includes a couple of hours of range time. Seems that CG requires a pilot in the front seat, and a unit I was in was shorthanded on pilots... And I've ridden in a Chinook once. That's enough. You weren't flying days were you? when I was there, they never flew anything but night missions. I hated flying behind them when we did because the uncovered engine exhaust would blind your goggles. memphismeister Posted February 25, 2009 Author Share #39 Posted February 25, 2009 Took my grandson to a memorial flight to see helicopters. As a 4 year old he was awsome. Didnt want to play on it like the other kids. He wanted to see all the good stuff. Future pilot maybe? Bell OH-58A Kiowa
hawkdriver Posted February 25, 2009 Share #40 Posted February 25, 2009 OK, now we can quit making fun of all of our aircraft, now we have a new aircrft to make fun of. Wing-ging-ging-ging-ging-ging Nothing like seeing a young boy excited about helicopters. Foster that in him and some day he can join the ranks of the few, the proud and join this board and tease other helo pilots!

I needed a shot of the old style OH-58A cockpit as a ref for a model I'm building. You wouldn't happen to have any others of the cockpit would you? Thanks for posting that shot! hawkdriver Posted February 26, 2009 Share #44 Posted February 26, 2009 Look, its a flying APU! More like a Dipsy dumpster beating itself to death. I hated them because every time they popped flares, the dumped a double load because they don't have any kind of HIRSS baffles. What a waste of taxpayers money.
