D-Day Landing Craft With Invasion Stripes

I ran across this photo in the unit history of the 348th Engineer Combat Battalion. The link can be found here and the photo appears on page 35:

Some members of the battalion landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day and the remainder followed up over the next two to three days.

 

What interested me is that the landing craft in the photo appears to be painted with the equivalent of invasion stripes that were ordered to be painted on the aircraft involved in Operation Overlord. I'm no expert on ship and boat markings, but I don't think I have ever seen these stripes on a landing craft.

I think that that may be the wing of an L-4 'Cub' on the landing craft. They disassembled the aircraft and landed them on the beach, put them together and off they went spotting for the arty. I see no reason the ship would have to be marked, I don't think there was any chance of and LSM or similar being enemy.
