Aussie-Wings Posted February 22, 2009 #1 Posted February 22, 2009 Hi, A pleasant surprise when I recently received a pack of patches to find amongst all the US Army cloth patches was this USAF Leather patch. I was wondering as to what period (if known) it would have been worn? Cheers, AW.
Steindaddie Posted February 22, 2009 #3 Posted February 22, 2009 The 56th is still around but was a designated as a Tactical Fighter Wing from 30 June 1975 to 1 Oct 1981 - there's the time frame for your patch. I was a member of the 56th TFW at MacDill AFB from July 1978 to Dec 1980 but never saw a leather version of the patch being worn.
Johnny Signor Posted February 22, 2009 #4 Posted February 22, 2009 This is probably just a recent made patch that someone had made and later decided to let it go, I haven't seen any recently worn leather patches with any active unit of the USAF, they have cloth ones with a leather border trim, such as the Command types-Air Combat Cmd, etc.
