Old Marine

This is the Tamiya, M8 kit.  Aside from the figures and added baggage, the vehicle is straight out of the box.  The M8 is from the 2nd Armored Division in Normandy, sometime in June 1944.  I based the figures on this wartime photo.  Eventually I might incorporate the vehicle and the civilians in to a diorama.

Here are some photos, thanks for looking.

Another great build Dennis. Always liked the kit when I was a young builder just never had it.

Great details and work.

Excellent work…..again. You are very good at making figures into something else. I still remember all your jeeps from different services. Amazing stuff, wish I had that kind of talent. Thanks for sharing.

Proud Kraut

I noticed that Tamiya refurbished the M8 kit some years ago, now available as "Combat Patrol Set". I assume this is the new kit? May I also ask where did you find these civilians?

You did an amazing job, Dennis. Excellent detail (including spoils of war ;-) and great painting as usual. Would love to see all elements united in a dio! Thanks for sharing!

Dennis,

This is amazing!! I think I like the driver's face the best! You did an excellent job on the weathering on these.  I love to see your work.

The one thing Tamiya continually gets wrong is the M2HB and its mount. they love the later D800300

and the mount most often seen on Halftracks and Scout cars is the D40733 mount

Thanks, for the detailed info on the gun mount.  There is usually an error or two in any of these kits, but we live with it.  Lars the civilian figures are from an  old, resin Verlinden set.  The two adult females are from from the MasterBox 1945 set. As was pointed out, they are not the best figures, but there are not many civilians and female figures available.  This M8 kit is actually the older issue.  I have seen that Tamiya reworked and reissued the kit, but I haven’t seen it yet.

This is the MasterBox set, I poached the figures from.

If you look t the second photo you can see a 98k and a German helmet, amongst the baggage.

Wow Dennis! I was wondering what you were up to. That M8 is outstanding. The weathering and 782 gear is spot on and both the military and civilian figures are great. I thought the civilian figures might have been from MiniArt. But I see they're from Master Box. Kat likes the driver, but I like the ginger G.I.

Thanks Manny.  The Sergeant and the old guy with the bottle and the PFC with the cigarette all have Hornet Heads.  You can see the difference right away.  Hornet is a UK company that make a whole lot of different resin heads from different countries and eras, with lots of different head gear.  They are really well sculpted in sometimes swapping the head can really fix a marginal figure.  Unfortunately they don’t make any female heads.  Those Hornet heads are a lot easier to paint because they have such nice crisp detail, I use them a lot.

Here is a link.  They have a wide range of characters heads.

Hey Dennis, thanks for the website link. I had totally forgotten about Hornet; and you're right they always had an outstanding array of heads with different headgear or by themselves.
