Water Wagons for Horses & Mules

Going through some of the several thousand archival photos at the 1AD and Fort Bliss Museum I came across this water wagon to refill watering troughs for horses and mules while out in the field. You can see that it looks like a large water tank with some hoses on the back for filling the water buckets and troughs and other watering devices. There also appears to be canvas behind the rider/driver and this may be to cover the water tank from the hot desert sun.  The driver is relaxing and even smoking a pipe...

We are not sure what Cavalry unit this is, but this image was with a large grouping of 8th Cavalry images so this may be the 8th Cav at Fort Bliss, Texas.

We have quite a few images that portray the animals and the horse shows and Polo matches that were here at Ft Bliss so when time permits I will upload some of them..

Best regards,

Leigh

Hi Leigh,

you mention horse troughs in the above text, I would be interested to see if you have any period photos featuring water troughs like the one shown from my collection.

thanks lewis.
