Historycollector61 Posted May 11, 2022 Share #1 Posted May 11, 2022 Hello I got these medals and dog tags on eBay for 70$. The guys name was Sidney Leo Elwyn. He was Jewish. Also included is some japanese insignia the guy got while in the pacific, his medal ribbon bars, and a WHOLE LOT of pins. I did not take pics of these but if y’all want me to I will. Can someone help me find his remaining family I want to return these medals. Here is a link to his findagrave profile and I did email the guy who added it but am yet to receive a reply. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/140090692/sidney-leo-elwyn I would also like to know his unit he fought in. I believe he was at one point a captain because I’m the insignia are a couple captains bars.
Mr.Jerry Posted May 13, 2022 Share #2 Posted May 13, 2022 With his service # beginning with an "O" he would have been an officer. Did you ask the person selling it? Maybe they were family or know where they got them from. Sadly most kids today have no use for the artifacts of history that we hold so dear. But I wish you luck with your efforts,

shortsix Posted May 15, 2022 Share #4 Posted May 15, 2022 It seems your guy was a doctor in the Medical Corps. I found this article - The Enterprise Journal (MS) - March 1943 - And then this wedding announcement - The Boston Globe - June 1946 - Draft card - Veterans affairs death file - Name: Sidney L Elwyn Gender: Male Birth Date: 28 Jun 1915 Death Date: 17 Feb 2001 Enlistment Branch: Army Enlistment Date: 29 Sep 1942 Discharge Date: 27 Jan 1946
Historycollector61 Posted May 15, 2022 Author Share #5 Posted May 15, 2022 That’s really cool. I did find the guys son but he said that he felt the medals would be more safe with me as his kids would have probably sold them when he passes
