I think this is the original caption: "29859 [2685T8]. Mess Sergt. A. C. Carlson of Headquarters Company, of the Three hundred and fifth Infantry, and some of his well-fed men. Ration display in the foreground. Abri du Cruchet, Ardennes, France. October 4, 1918."

ABRIS du CROCHET, not Cruchet...Next to the Carrefour des Meurisson and the Kromprinz Shelter

 

This was a  former german camp where  the survivors of the Lost battalion went tafter beeing released from the Charleveaux pocket  after October 8th 1918

 

Some items found on the spot.... years ago
