Nice USMC fixed loop set, but the auction house broke the chinstrap! :-(

Picked up this awesome set, and then noticed after the fact the auction house ripped the leather chinstrap on the liner when removing it for photos!

Not very happy about that. I know auctions are "as they come" but I think the auction house should take some responsibility because it's clearly their carelessness as to why this happened. Has anyone had any success with getting an auction house to do any kind of compensation?

As you can see, they photographed it unbroken, and then took later photos of the liner with it broken. So it had to have been broken by them during removal.

I'm going to go the diplomatic route first with a polite phone call and/or e-mail and then see where it goes from there.

I think you are SOL since it was broken in some of the photos. There are a few threads on this forum dealing with leather chinstrap repair.  I have repaired several and mostly you would never know.

Yes, I figured that's how they'd cover themselves. That it was pictured both broken and un-broken and that's what you get. Kind of sketchy they didn't actually notate that in the description. They notated it for existing damages on the bugle.

That’s a little wonky in my opinion especially if the first pictures show a complete chinstrap.

If I saw that it may never occur to me that it’s broken as my mind would be fixed on the first pictures.

I reached out to the auction house and I accepted their offer of a $20 refund as I'd still like the item.

That would work for me.

Much less than the value of the strap overall, but it essentially covers their buyer premium.
