silverado Posted May 9, 2022 Share #1 Posted May 9, 2022 I recently picked this one up. It is a late WWII production helmet with a post war possibly navy markings on the liner. Inside the shell is scratched “Combat Brown”. I enhanced it with my iPhone so that it is easier to read. The exterior has what I would call a “Lime Green” paint, and there are remnants of yellow paint and a darker green paint on it too. I have seen pictures of pacific used helmets that are similar and just wanted some other opinions and thoughts about the helmet.
elh1311 Posted May 9, 2022 Share #2 Posted May 9, 2022 The liner and sweatband are post-WWII and I reckon that the leather chinstrap is as well. It's a unique looking helmet for sure.
TheGoose Posted May 10, 2022 Share #3 Posted May 10, 2022 I would consider it to be a post war used set, but still awesome looking! Not too many camo M1s out there from any time period.
dmar836 Posted May 11, 2022 Share #4 Posted May 11, 2022 It always seamed to me that these types of camo jobs in period photos were in the vesicant detector paint. This is based on photos of units and/in locations just after the invasion. Also based on much talk around M-1s that were survivors/accurate fakes. Were other units documented as having used this pattern of camo using standard available paints? Helmet has a great look to it for sure. Dave I think the 81st infantry had this style of camo, and I think some units on Okinawa had similar camo helmets.

I am. 👍 They seem to be self-replicating out of the woodwork. Especially medic helmets these days. Lots of medic helmets popping up.
