ArchangelDM Posted May 6, 2022 Share #1 Posted May 6, 2022 Looking through eBay late the other month I found this for sale on a BIN and pushed the button. Another heavily used Camouflage M1 helmet with lots of salty elements that I love. As it’s a rear seam I’m guessing Korean War use, all be it the camouflage pattern shows lots of elements of the 27th infantry camo patterns used in the PTO. This features a black and pale green camo that’s had a dent in the top there for making it bowl for shaving etc. The chin straps have the anchor and I’m wondering if they could be Korean War issue ? They still have mud on them and they are heavily worn. What do you all think, Korean War or Vietnam War ?
ArchangelDM Posted May 6, 2022 Author Share #2 Posted May 6, 2022 As the rear seam came into play in Nov 1944 I’m guessing this was used late in the PTO and even in the mopping up of the islands which lasted for months afterwards, then the helmet was re used in the Korean War as the 27th was attached to the 25th infantry and fought with them. 644td Posted May 6, 2022 Share #4 Posted May 6, 2022 The chinstraps do not support WW2 or Korean War. I like the looks of it but it could have been used by a foreign country.

However with those chinstraps ..somtime in the 50s to Viet Nam era. Either way its a nice salty camo. Great catch! 👍

Blueprint Posted May 7, 2022 Share #9 Posted May 7, 2022 To my knowledge Korean War chinstraps were like yours but OD. The changeover to black came post KW. But I’ll have to look again and give you an infinite answer later on! It still has great character! Came the liner with the set?

It came with a Vietnam liner which I’ll post, it stank so bad I had to leave it outside. Almost like something had died inside it not sure if the liner was original as in good condition but who knows
Blueprint Posted May 7, 2022 Share #11 Posted May 7, 2022 I just looked up my research material and judging by your shell parts it is some kind of a transitional helmet shell, being issued/produced inbetweeen 1964-1966. The anchor buckle is commonly seen on VN lids post 1965 but then there's the round chinstrap clips, those where pre 1966. As your chinstrap hook is pretty corroded it was produced pre 1966 because in 1966 the changed to a corrosion resistent steel buckle and hook. Is there a heat lot in the shell?
