kanemono Posted May 3, 2022 Share #1 Posted May 3, 2022 Sergeant Christian T. Ott was born in the state of New York about 1870. Ott was a Captain in the Greenwich Guards in 1887.He then enlisted in the 12th New York State National Guard Infantry Regiment, Company B, on May 2, 1898. The Regiment was mustered into federal service on May 13th, 1898 at Camp Townsend, NY. It was officially designated the “12th Regiment, Infantry, New York Vols.” on the same date. On December 26th the 12th Regiment left camp for Cuba. They arrived on the 1st of January 1899 and took up garrison duty at Matanzas and Cardenas. On March 20th, 1899 the regiment was sent home to New York City where it arrived on March 27th and was mustered out of Federal service on April 20th, 1899. Ott served as a Sergeant in the 12th New York State National Guard infantry Regiment, Company B for twenty years. His medals include a handmade “Young Men’s Greenwich Guards medal in 10K gold with bronze rifles made by an unknown jeweler. His ten, fifteen and twenty year service medals are by Tiffany and Company and Dieges and Clust. The Tiffany medals are adorned with heavy 22K gold fittings and ribbon clasps, the Dieges and Clust medals and ribbons are adorned with heavy 18K gold. Christian T. However I couldn't afford the group with the heavy solid gold medal. I wasn't charged extra for the gold on the other medals and since the pieces are 22k and 24k they are now worth several times what I paid for the entire group.
