mkite93 Posted May 3, 2022 Share #1 Posted May 3, 2022 Recently at separate times I found these two interesting paintings that I added to my collection from a forgotten part of WWII history. The larger painting is from a German Luftwaffe corporal held at Camp Kendall in Miami FL. Interestingly he actually escaped with another soldier at one point and surrendered two days later. I imagine the south Florida weather that time of year wasn’t very forgiving for them. The Smaller painting is to a E. Schulze who was at held at Harmon General Hospital in Longview Texas. Sadly the label is slightly damaged and some of the info about him is lost to history. I haven’t had much luck researching that individual. Just thought I would share these interesting pieces of WWII history.

mkite93 Posted May 4, 2022 Author Share #5 Posted May 4, 2022 Thanks for the comments! They are neat items to have, definitely a conversation piece. Just wish I could find some more info about the soldiers who painted them.
siege1863 Posted May 5, 2022 Share #6 Posted May 5, 2022 Here is one large piece of POW art I have from Camp Clinton in Mississippi. It is a scene of the Grand Canyon. No doubt made from a colored magazine or book photo. Do note that the "frame" is part of the painting! Is is done in such a way as to look three dimensional. mkite93 Posted May 5, 2022 Author Share #7 Posted May 5, 2022 Very interesting painting. You would never know from looking at the pictures that the frame is actually part of the painting! If anyone has any other POW paintings please feel free to add pictures of them to this thread.
