Relatively New Advanced Combat Helmet (ACH)

Hello,

I picked this up off ebay because I figured I wouldn't be able to keep the one I'd be issued, and I hear we're switching to a new helmet anyways. Back when stimulus checks were a thing, I decided to buy this since it was by far the nicest one I saw. Only $200 total for it, minus the light and goggles, which I don't think could have been any better! Those only added $50 to it, if memory serves correctly.

What stood out to me was the newer style of chinstrap, which appealed to me a little more, and is a little more comfortable.

Unfortunately the tag is pretty much scratched off, and only the MSA logo, as well as some other things are visible. I don't know if this was done by the seller, or by the original wearer. The NVG mount is a little dinged up, and the arm rattles constantly, so I couldn't know.

I can gather that it was made in 2017, or around the time, if I'm reading it right.

When lifting up the middle pad, it reveals a blacked out tag, and the size of the shell.

I try not to investigate this helmet too much, last time I did, I found a peanut heart underneath the pads.

I'm more curious as to why all the information would be scrubbed off like that, but that's just me.

Another thing to note about these pads is that everyone up here hates them. It's good we're not fighting in a cold country (yet?), since up here, these freeze like a rock on your head, it makes me wonder if we really considered that at all!

All of the helmets have serial numbers. It may be paranoia, but people will scratch off the tags, worried they'll get in trouble selling them. And yes there are folks monitoring ebay for that sort of thing. But MICH/ACH helmets are pretty low on the list of priorities these days. "they" are mostly looking for NVG and weapon components.

The "tag" on the inside of the dome is actually embedded, you'd have to dig it out. If you're so inclined you can take a q-tip and some acetone and it'll take the sharpie marker off without damaging the helmet. The date will be on that tag.
