dunmore1774 Posted April 29, 2022 #1 Posted April 29, 2022 I was looking through my grandfather's papers and found this letter authorizing the Papuan Forces decoration. Any idea what that looks like? I can't find anything on it. His ribbon bars are pictured. I have his Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Service Medal, but I think a few Bronze Stars are missing. Not sure what the white ribbon with red edges is, or the individual blue one with brass edges. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor.
Cobra 6 Actual Posted April 29, 2022 #2 Posted April 29, 2022 The blue ribbon with the brass border is the Presidential Unit Citation. I think the other you asked about MAY BE the China Service Medal with a faded yellow ribbon and red stripes.
atb Posted April 29, 2022 #3 Posted April 29, 2022 Distinguished Unit Citation (DUC). It was renamed as the Presidential Unit Citation later. I think the orders refer to the "Papuan Forces, United States Army, Southwest Pacific Area" as the unit that received the DUC, not to an actual "Papuan Forces" decoration or medal.
