Legion of Valor brochure

The publication appears to have been a yearly update of societal matters; it also contains vignettes of selected members and officials.

I  was always fascinated by the embossed decorations and am happy that I resisted any thought of applying a scissor.

Army & Navy Legion of Valor items are great.  I love looking through old programs.  I have to admit, though, the reunion badges are my favorite.

Thanks for sharing the photo with the forum!

I have two pieces of Army & Navy Legion of Valor pieces in my collection.

The first is a reunion badge from the 35th reunion held on November 10, 11, 12, 1925 reunion in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.

Here are front and back pictures of the badge along with the card it was issued on. Unfortunately the name of who the badge was issued to is missing.

The other Army & Navy Legion of Valor pieces in my collection is a book issued at the 54th reunion held at the Hotel Pennsylvania in New York on August 13, 14, 15, 16, 1944. The book is 111 pages and has many great photographs and stories.

Hello Kevin:.

Your collection of badges is impressive!

I should have looked for a LoV topic before I posted this one (Admins: consolidate this with Kevin's if that is strategic).

I agree: having an actual badge is always best.

I noted in the brochure that the Legion had their 1913 convention at Gettysburg obviously because of the 50th anniversary. I would imagine that badge would be somewhat of a Holy Grail for you given the cache of that encounter.

Regards, Jim.

I experimented with lighting and, despite the fact that my phone's camera has no macro mode, was still able to produce a decent shot showing the detail of the embossing:

Aficionados of the US Navy's Tiffany Cross here at USMF will likely be impressed with the level of detail achieved by the printer. The ribbon actually has the watering (moire) and texture of a real one!

Enjoy

There is an excellent thread on the 50th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg in the Veterans' Organization section.  There is a picture of the Army & Navy Legion of Valor badge for the 1913 reunion.   There might only be 2 or 3 in existence.  I most likely will never own one.

Check out the thread, but specifically Post #133.
