INIMICUS Posted April 23, 2022 Share #1 Posted April 23, 2022 Got 3 smaller cap pins, all 'sterling' mkd. but without maker name, about 1 x 1/2." 2 are the standard form of gold gilt + bright silver -- but one is 2-tone. not only is the 'u.s.n.' device silver-colored but so is the anchor shaft (alone -- the cross piece is gilded). also maybe oddly, the 8-pip clutches are sllver-colored too. I figure both examples are 'stay-bright' finished from, say VM era or after. please set me straight, thanks guys!
sigsaye Posted April 23, 2022 Share #2 Posted April 23, 2022 Having worn those for 12 years (9 as Senior Chief), what you have are collar devices. The ones we wore on our every day working khakis, tended to have the gilding wear off. I’ve had them completely “Metalic”, with traces of gold in the crevices

I don’t think they were used prior to 1963, and when the whole “Cammie” thing happened, (in what, 2010?), they were used daily. After the end of wash khakis (cammie era), everything went to sew on.
