collectsmedals Posted April 13, 2022 Share #1 Posted April 13, 2022 On August 21st and 22nd 1907 a reunion of surviving members of General George Armstrong Custer's Civil War command held a reunion at Canandaigua New York. This is the only reunion they held and it was attended by General Custer's widow Elizabeth. Attached are a photograph of a badge from that reunion in my collection and the copy of an article from the Rochester Democrat Chronical written by Arch Merrill in August 1960 describing the reunion. According to the article General Custer himself visited Canandaigua in 1866. The reunion badge is stamped on the back of the medallion and clasp "The Whitehead & Hoag Co. Newark N.J. KevinBeyer Posted April 14, 2022 Share #2 Posted April 14, 2022 How interesting that Merrill wrote about the reunion in 1960. He didn't seem to have a connection to the people, or the event. He just wrote about it as a human interest piece. That is a great piece. As someone who is interested in reunion badges, this one is very interesting. It, in and of itself, is a complete collection of Custer Command reunion badges. I'd say that this is a next level piece! Thanks for sharing. SARGE Posted April 16, 2022 Share #4 Posted April 16, 2022 And, Whitehead & Hoag made many reunion badges along with the Confederate Veteran Southern Cross badges.
