gunbb Posted March 29, 2022 Share #1 Posted March 29, 2022 I picked this up recently and it's been so long since I've seen one that I would like opinions on it and the attachments that are on the shoulders. To me they look like a coatume company addition but before I remove them, I'd just like to know if someone else has ever seen this . Thanks

I have books but none show the scales . Lastly where would I get a set of scales ? Thanks so much .
dhcoleterracina Posted March 30, 2022 Share #5 Posted March 30, 2022 I thought that scales were for a downward sword strike. I think anyway.
AustinO Posted March 30, 2022 Share #6 Posted March 30, 2022 Jacket is real. Scales are more of an early war ornamental piece, a carry over from earlier military uniforms. You don't really see them worn after about 1862. They are readily available online (eBay and dealers sites).
gunbb Posted March 30, 2022 Author Share #7 Posted March 30, 2022 Thanks Austin0 . I ordered a pair of scales ,[original], from J&J Military Antiques. Very interesting and thanks to all who helped me with their good information.
